LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS 2019

This year, the Local Scholarship Application is available as a Google Form. A link to the Form is available below. Before you click on it, though, please read the following:

 DIRECTIONS:

  1. To access the application, you will be required to sign in with your Glen Rock Google account email.
  2. The scholarships ‘A - M’ listed below require the completion of the Local Scholarship Single Application, which is accessible via the link below.Scholarships listed as ‘AA - FF’ require completion of the Local Scholarship Single Application, as well as an essay or portfolio. Scholarships listed as ‘AAA - JJJ’ require a separate application, documents, or supplement which is either described in the scholarship listing or is available via a specific link for that scholarship, to be found below next to the scholarship description.
  3. You MUST complete the application in order for any submitted essays and related documentation to be considered.
  4. On the form, be sure to select each scholarship(s) for which you are applying and for which you meet the criteria (criteria for each scholarship are listed next to it below).
  5. For scholarships requesting an essay or additional information, please email the essay to scholarships@glenrocknj.org . Please include your name and the name of the scholarship on all pages of the document. ALL essays should be 250 words or less, unless otherwise specified.
  6. Please be sure to attach a copy of your current Transcript and/or Activity Resume to this scholarship application only if requested by a particular scholarship.
  7. Applications will be time- and date-stamped upon completion. Please be sure to complete the application and all necessary forms NO LATER THAN:

 Friday, May 3rd , 2019 by 3:00 p.m.

The Local Scholarship Single Application must be completed for the following scholarships:

 

  1. Bergen County Directors of Guidance Scholarship – Award for a student involved in school and community activities.Financial need considered.
  2. Browning-Forshay Scholarship – Student with a B or above average who is involved in school activities and community service and is employed part-time or during the summer.
  3. Frank J. Taylor Memorial Scholarship Award – Award to a male student for the study of horticulture or landscape architecture.
  4. Glen Rock Educational Association Future Educators’ Scholarship – Financial need and scholastic achievement.One scholarship awarded to a student planning a career in education.
  5. Glen Rock Education Association Scholarship – Financial need and scholastic achievement.
  6. G.R.A.C.E. 9/11 Tribute Scholarship – Award for a student with strong values, good citizenship, work ethic and community service.Financial need considered.
  7. Helen E. Taylor Memorial Scholarship Award – Awarded to a female student for the study of music or voice.
  8. Janet Schattin Memorial Scholarship – One award for a student planning to pursue a career in the arts, music and/or a health related field.
  9. Jed Haubenstock Memorial Scholarship – Award for a student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and school involvement with a broad scope of interests and achievements.
  10. Michael J. Lota Memorial Music Scholarship – Award for a student who participates in extra-curricular musical activities and is planning to pursue the study of music after graduating from high school.
  11. Winifred Whitehouse Bender Music Scholarship – Award for a student who plans to major in a music field at the college level and contemplates a career involving music.
  12. Glen Rock Band Parents Association Scholarship – Award for a senior student presently taking band.
  13. George McCabe Memorial Scholarship Award – Award for a special education student continuing their education.

The scholarships listed below require the completion of the Local Scholarship Single Application as well as an essay or portfolio. Descriptions for some of the essays can be found in the links next to the scholarship.

 

AA. GRHS Class of 1959 Virginia James Memorial Scholarship – Strength of school and community involvement and active participation.

Requirement:  Essay – How do you believe that school and community service has helped you to become a well-rounded individual?

BB. Karen Coote Ferrari Memorial Scholarship – Award for a student planning to study in a fine arts college.

Requirement:  Portfolio and an aptitude for visual arts.

CC. Karol Ebeling Memorial Scholarship – Award for a student of academic strength, strong character and an enduring interest in learning for the sake of learning.

Requirement:  Essay – How have reading and travel helped you develop a desire to be the best person you can be?

DD. Leonard Chesler YES Scholarship –Award for a student involved in community service and extra-curricular activities and must have a “C” average.

Requirement:  Essay – One paragraph essay showing your positive influence in school and community.

EE. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee Scholarship – Award for a college bound graduating senior, regardless of financial need or minority status, showing a commitment to the social justice principles of Dr. King.

FF. Glen Rock Chamber of Commerce Scholarship –Award for a graduating senior student with financial need who plans to major in a business field.

The scholarships listed below require a separate application or a supplement, which is available through the link next to the scholarship.  Please make note of specific submission instructions contained within the individual applications for each of the scholarships listed.  Unless otherwise indicated in the separate application, the scholarship application is due to the recipient indicated on the form by Friday, May 3, 2019, at 3:00 p.m.
